Gorilla Trekking

Rwanda

The land of a thousand hills, Rwanda is a mountainous country with shrouded equatorial forests. Trekking in the Virunga Mountains, a pristine mountain forest and home to the mountain gorillas of Diane Fossey, and sitting humbly among giant primates is one of the most exhilarating safari experiences.

Nearby Nyungwe rainforest is home to 13 primates, including chimpanzees and Colobus monkeys, as well as rare orchids and 300 species of birds. In the west, Rwanda is bordered by Lake Kivu, one of a string of huge freshwater lakes in the Great Rift Valley.

In recovery from the devastating genocide of 1994, this small landlocked nation is becoming one of Africa’s most exciting destinations.

Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked country that borders Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Its diverse landscapes encompass the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa.  Its ecosystems range from the volcanic mountains of the eastern and western frontiers, to the forested swamps of the Albert Nile River, to the rainforests of the central plateau.  A mainstay of the economy, coffee flourishes on this fertile land.

The abundant wildlife includes chimpanzees and rare birds.  Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a mountain gorilla sanctuary and Murchison Falls National Park is renowned for its stunning waterfall and wildlife.
